Main Purpose of Role

The role of the Site Engineer is specifically designed to meet project and corporate requirements.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the task of monitoring and supervising the activities and assisting the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager  in carrying out the activities to ensure the Project implementation of the rehabilitation, reinforcement and extension of the national power grid and client connection.

The site Engineer is an important part of the project. He represents EDM’s project team on site. He will be EDM’s point of contact with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.

The site engineer will be located at site where new connections will take place, site allocations may vary during the construction period depending on project progress.

The Site engineer will be trained and expected to execute tasks related to project management, construction supervision, project design and administrative procedures.

Key Main Responsibilities (this list should not be considered an exhaustive list)

  • Be trained in project management procedures, FIDIC rules for contractors and consulting services.
  • Support EDM’s Commercial Department in identifying new customers
  • Review equipment delivery records and report any delays from the equipment suppliers
  • Ensure that the technical specifications of the equipment and materials used in the construction of power lines and substations are in compliance with the Standards in force at EDM and International Standards
  • Oversie construction and installation activities implemented by the contractors
  • Witness site tests and review the Supervision Engineer’s test reports
  • Oversee the occupational health and safety as well as environmental procedures on site
  • Learn and master the International labor inspectors rules of contractors
  • Participate in site meeting, as required and report back to the Project Managers
  • Learn and master the production of project reports for sending to senior management as well as project lenders.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Have at last 3 (three) years’ of relevant experience  supervising works related to power distribution networks and substation projects up to 66kV.
  • Have computer skills in the user perspective
  • Knowledge of software that enables analysis of electrical power systems as well as in preparation of different project reports
  • This position requires fluency in spoken and written Portuguese. However, fluency in spoken and written English is also essential.
  • Be proactive, dynamic, good problem solving skills, be result oriented
  • Good ability to network independently and as a team
  • Good communication and relationship skills at all levels.
